$2.00 a Day: Living on Almost Nothing in America$2.00 a Day: Living on Almost Nothing in America by Kathryn Edin
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

An eye opener to the extreme poverty that exists in our country. The forgotten rural areas across our land where people don’t have access to transportation or jobs. Many feel that these people, if they only had some initiative, could support and maintain themselves. Afterall, getting a job and providing for your family is a choice, right?

Without transportation, without fresh clothing, without dental services or the ability to afford them, without a ‘normal’ economy, without housing, without hope, the cards are completely stacked against them.

When able to land a meager job, the employers whom these folk appeal to, use them like pawns; taking advantage the system that treats them like a commodity.

I’ve grown to believe that there will always be people who for various reasons, will need the help of those that have more. Unfortunately, those that have more and are willing to help are completely unaware of the extremes that people living on $2 dollars a day are subject to. Moreover, they don’t know that these people even exist.

A definite must read and a definite must share with like minded people.
